A « Below the line »

Painting and ceramics

“Below the Line“ is a mixed installation.

A landscape suspended between light and silence. Tender colours, a boundary like a threshold. And below this passage, four presences keep watch, delicate, grounded, and silent.

quiet presence that invites us to observe differently.

A suspended scene

The painting “Below the Line“ evokes a landscape that seems either to recede or to emerge.

The colours are soft, almost diaphanous: aqua, pale pink, vague white. The gaze drifts through a floating light, soothed by a horizontal line crossing the canvas, like a shoreline, a memory, or a threshold.

Beings arising from the same breath as the landscape

I shaped them as one lays down a thought. Standing beings, both delicate and grounded, arising from the same breath as the landscape. I imagine them gazing at the world they may have contributed to. They contemplate, silently.

Not to guide us, but simply to be there. To preserve memory — and what is possible. As if their silence contained the origin of the world — and its becoming.

Their irregular silhouettes, coated with engobe in mineral colours, echo the tones of the painting. They extend the gesture of painting into the material. A gentle tension settles between emptiness and presence. The whole setup becomes a suspended scene, an inhabited landscape, an inner space. A place where one stands upright, on a par with silence.
